Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign - Beginner/Mixed Level

Course Description

This course is about learning all the basics of how to use Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, two of the main programs used by graphic designers for print. Gain experience with the software and learn how they can be integrated into your projects whilst you explore a variety of design techniques and concepts. The course is taught on Apple Macs but skills learnt can be applied to Windows PCs. You will also have cloud access to relevant Adobe software for the course duration.

Course Requirements

You need no previous experience of the software to attend this course. It will be an advantage if you have some computer experience. The course will be taught on Macs and part of the teaching will be to help you better understand and navigate MACOSX. You will also need to complete an individual learning plan.

Course Content

This course will cover the fundamentals of InDesign and Photoshop for print. We will cover how the applications work together. We will use Photoshop to repair, enhance and combine images. We will use InDesign to create both single page and multi-page documents. We will also look at type style, text wrapping and saving and exporting work to different file formats.

Teaching and Learning Methods

You will learn through, practical activities, group exercises and peer assessment, listening and analysis, demonstration and discussion, use of supporting online materials, individual practice, use of ILT and continuous assessment. There is no homework associated with the sessions but please do discuss extension activities with your tutor.

Assessment

You will be continually assessed through your practical activities and will receive feedback in a variety of ways such as peer assessment, verbal and written feedback from your teacher. This is a non-accredited course but a certificate of completion can be provided by the College on request.

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Provision of assistive equipment is available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments, subject to an assessment by the ALS team and/or the Disability Officer.
