This course introduces you to the foundational tools and techniques of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign, two of the main programs used by graphic designers and Illustrators. Gain experience with the different software and learn how they can be integrated in your projects while you explore a variety of design techniques and concepts. The course is taught on Apple Macs, but skills learnt can be applied to Windows PCs.

Who is this course for and what will I learn?
To get the most out of this course, you should be comfortable with basic computer functions and own a camera with full manual controls. While prior experience with Apple computers is not essential, the course will be delivered on Mac, and part of the learning will include guidance on using MAC operating systems effectively. This will help you develop confidence in navigating the software and tools needed for media production. In addition, you?ll be expected to complete an individual learning plan (ILP), which will help track your progress, set personal goals, and identify areas for further development throughout the course. This course introduces the fundamentals of Photoshop and InDesign, focusing on image editing, design, and layout skills. You?ll learn to use Photoshop for photo editing, retouching, and creating visual elements, while InDesign will teach you how to design and arrange multi-page documents like brochures, magazines, and flyers. The course also covers how the two programs work together, their differences, and how to save and export your projects in various file formats. How will I learn?
You will learn through, practical activities, group exercises and peer assessment, listening and analysis, demonstration and discussion, use of supporting online materials, individual practice, use of ILT and continuous assessment. There is no homework associated with the sessions, but please do discuss extension activities with your tutor.
Assessment and next steps
You will be continually assessed through your practical activities and will receive feedback in a variety of ways such as peer assessment, verbal and written feedback from your teacher. This is a non-accredited course, but a certificate of completion can be provided by the College on request. Once you have completed the course, you may choose to enrol on a further term in this subject or another subject.
