Acting & Drama - Script & Improvisation Workshop

Course Description

On this course you will work on developing your own imagination and confidence through voice and physical presence in order to explore your acting potential. It also focuses on the practical skills to work with other people and to help encourage the creative potential for effective character and scene work. There will be a mixture of improvisation and play-text work, technique workshops and drama games.

Location: Online/Camden

Course Content

On the course you will focus on developing the imagination, ?using yourself as the creator?. This will involve improvisation from images, scripts, text and objects and will also include a study of basic principles such as conflict, objectives and motivation. Finally, you will look into physicalisation and vocal exploration to help support your self-expression. Learning progresses in level as the year continues. Continuing learners will be expected to build on their existing level of learning.

Please note: although acting and drama covers specific content each term, the course is developmental over the whole year. If you sign up for the full three terms (courses A, B and C) at the start of the academic year e.g. August / September you will be entitled to the ?early bird? discount.

Teaching and Learning Methods

You will learn through Practical activities, Peer assessment, Listening and analysis, Demonstration and discussion, Use of supporting online materials (Google Classroom / OneDrive), Individual practice, Use of ILT (computers), Continuous assessment

Independent Learning

In addition to the classes you will be expected to develop yourself by going to the theatre, reading plays and seeing films. The library stocks a variety of plays and reference texts that will help you to enrich your own learning.

Assessment

You will engage in peer and self-assessment, observation and practitioner commentaries, presentations and demonstrations. You will also receive both formal and informal feedback from your tutor. Your Individual Learning Plan will ask you to comment on how far you feel you have progressed. You can receive a Certificate of Completion from the College on request.

Qualification you will achieve

There is no formal qualification attached to this course but you can receive a Certificate of Completion from the college on request.
There is no exam or formal assessment. However, you will work with your tutor to identify your aims at the beginning of the session
and will receive one to one feedback throughout as well as sharing outcomes at the end of the course.

Additional Learning Support

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet all learners needs. Provision of assistive equipment is available and access support can be provided through reasonable adjustments, subject to an assessment by the ALS team and/or the Disability Officer. Digital Learning support is available in the Learning Centre at our Camden site. Careers advice and guidance is also available to all learners.

Additional Costs

WM College provides all the basic materials and equipment you will need to complete the course. Your tutor will advise you where you can buy materials or equipment to extend your study, should you wish.
