Although you do not need a broad knowledge or experience of theatre, you will be expected to manage from the start punctuality, concentration, self-motivation and social skills for sustained collaboration and effective team-work. At the end of the first session, your individual level will be assessed and you may be asked to move to the afternoon Acting & Drama Workshop so we can ensure that you make progress and get the best out of your course. You will work upon the following course outcomes: 1 - apply appropriate warm up techniques for preparation of the voice, body and mind; 2 - develop ideas for and contribute creatively towards at least two improvised/devised pieces of work; 3 - develop ideas for and contribute creatively towards at least two script-based pieces of work; 4 - show work to others, using movement and vocal skills with some technical control; 5 - review own work and work of others and identify areas for improvement. Please note that although acting and drama covers specific content each term, the course is developmental over the whole year.

You will learn through, practical activities, group exercises and peer assessment, listening and analysis, demonstration and discussion, use of supporting online materials, and individual practice. Includes work on a range of techniques and approaches: sight-reading; line-learning; managing response and reaction; physical, vocal, spatial development and application; improvisation structures and approaches; warm up participation and application; timing awareness and application; text and scene analysis; text investigation through practical work; analysis and reflection of own practical work.

You will be continually assessed through your practical activities and will receive feedback in a variety of ways such as peer assessment, and verbal and written feedback from your teacher. This is a non-accredited course, but a certificate of completion can be provided by the College on request. Once you have completed the course, you may choose to enrol on a further term in this subject or another subject.

Teachers are supported to ensure their materials are inclusive to meet learners’ needs. Christopher White – Acting & Writing tutor

Christopher is a professional actor and writer for stage, screen and video games. He has worked for fifteen years as an actor working in theatre, film and television. A published and award winning playwright, Christopher’s work has toured the UK.

TEACHING AND LEARNER SUPPORT
Having taught for over a decade, Christopher has worked in schools, colleges and universities across the UK.

He has a hands-on approach to teaching acting and writing – creating a fear-free space. Fun and creativity are at the forefront of Christopher’s sessions.

Whether or not learners have a desire to tread the boards or produce a script – students will develop confidence and strengthen their creative muscles.
