Suitable for both beginners and experienced makers, you’ll explore a range of surfaces, tiles and found materials through guided practice, developing personal ideas and approaches.
You’ll learn how to combine materials to create texture and depth, and how colour and composition influence your designs.
All materials are provided, and teaching takes place in our dedicated art studio with plenty of space to work comfortably.
This course provides a strong foundation for progressing onto further mosaic and mixed?media courses at WM College.

Who is this course for and what will I learn?
This course is for learners interested in exploring abstract mosaic approaches using texture, colour and mixed materials.
It is suitable for beginners who want to try mosaic for the first time, as well as more experienced makers who want to experiment with new ideas, materials and processes. If you already have some experience of mosaic or making, you will be supported to develop your ideas further and experiment with more complex approaches.
By the end of this course you will be able to
- Experiment with texture, colour and mixed materials in mosaic work
- Cut, shape and assemble materials using appropriate tools
- Develop personal ideas through practical making
How will I learn?
You will learn through practical, studio-based sessions designed to introduce key techniques and approaches in a short, focused format.
The course is practice-led, with demonstrations, guided exercises and references to artists’ work to support your learning. You will receive one-to-one guidance from your tutor and take part in group discussion and feedback.
You will work in a supportive and engaging environment, with time to experiment, develop your skills and reflect on your work.
Sessions are designed to be intensive and hands-on, helping you build confidence quickly.
Depending on the length of the course, you may have the opportunity to develop a short personal outcome or resolved piece, bringing together the techniques explored during the sessions.
This course takes place in a dedicated art studio at WM College in Camden, London, where you will have access to a well-equipped studio, shared equipment and teaching resources, and a supportive and collaborative learning environment.
All materials will be provided for the course.
Assessment and next steps
Assessment is informal, supportive, and integrated throughout this short course. Ongoing feedback is provided across the day, with progress reviewed through practical activities.
Your tutor will guide you step by step through the project and support your progress as you work. Session include demonstrations and guided exercises.
By the end of the course, you will have gained insight into key mosaic techniques, developed new practical skills, and created a piece or samples to take away.
