AAT Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping Level 3

Course Description

**This course is free if it is your first level 3.**

This course is ideal for experienced bookkeepers looking to enhance their skills or for those progressing from the L2 Certificate in Bookkeeping. You will master advanced bookkeeping and learn how to confidently handle final account preparation and indirect tax. This qualification can lead to employment as professional bookkeeper, senior bookkeeper, accounts manager, and ledger manager. On completion of this course, you will be eligible to apply for AAT bookkeeping membership (AATQB).

Course Requirements

You will need to have completed the L2 Certificate in Bookkeeping course or to be assessed as having achieved an equivalent level by our specialist staff. Please note, the course will run on Wednesday evenings and on Saturdays during the day (10.00am to 4.00pm).

Course Content

You will gain the knowledge and skills needed to carry out advanced bookkeeping transactions and tasks in three mandatory units: Advanced Bookkeeping, Final Accounts Preparation, and Indirect Tax. At the end of the course, you will understand advanced bookkeeping principles and concepts, preparation of financial statements for sole traders and partnerships, and issues around indirect tax (VAT in the UK) in business. You will learn all of this in the context of the ethical issues that a bookkeeper may encounter in their professional life.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Your tutor will use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles to support you in achieving your goals. The teaching on this course will involve lectures, discussions and lots of worked examples. You will spend the majority of your time practising using a PC. Throughout the course, your tutor will give you verbal and written feedback on your progress towards the requirements of the qualification. The skills you are learning should be practised outside college so that you develop and progress. Your practical skills should be supplemented with the study necessary to successfully complete the range of different assessments.

Assessment

There will be continual assessment during the course as well as three end-of-unit assessments for the certificate. On completion of this course, you will be awarded the AAT Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping. You can also apply for AAT associate bookkeeping membership and achieve professional AAT Bookkeeper status (AATQB).

Next Steps and Progression

Students completing the AAT Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping may wish to go on and complete the full AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting. Advice and Guidance for all further study is available from the Curriculum Manager by request.
