AAT Access Award in Accounting Software Level 1

Course Description

This is the perfect starting point if you want to carry out basic finance and administrative duties using accounting software packages. During the course you will learn the benefits and risks of using accounting software to set up accounts, record bank and cash transactions, produce reports and gain confidence to seek - or enhance your - current employment. You do not require previous experience of accounting knowledge, although you will need an assessment if you wish to join the course.

Course Requirements

To start this programme, ideally you should have English, maths and IT skills at level 1. If you do not have the entry requirements, you will be required to pass an Entry Test to ensure your skills are at the necessary level to cope with the course. Exemptions from this requirement maybe granted

Course Content

This course will introduce you to using accounting software and the main features of accounting software. You will learn how to set up accounts and how to record bank and cash transactions using accounting software. You will also develop the skills needed to produce a range of reports to meet business needs.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The teaching on this course will involve lectures, discussions and lots of worked examples. You will spend the majority of your time practising using a PC. Throughout the course, your tutor will give you verbal and written feedback on your progress towards the requirements of the qualification. The skills you are learning should be practised outside college so that you develop and progress.


Students must successfully complete one end-of-qualification computer-based assessment to achieve the AAT Level 1 Award in Accounting Software qualification.

Next Steps and Progression

Learners who complete this course may want to apply for the AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting or the AAT Level 2 Foundation Award in Accounting Software.
