WMC Student Success Night 2015

Students at WMC-The Camden College last night celebrated their academic achievements at the annual WMC Student Success Night 2015.

Over 100 attendees filled the auspicious Maurice Hall onsite at the College in order to join in the celebrations where prizes were awarded in two categories – the Lowes Dickinson Prize and the ‘How WMC Changed My Life’ competition.

The Lowes Dickinson category was open to all Art and Humanities students. This prize is named after Lowes Cato Dickinson, who was a tutor, artist and founder member of the WMC; it is funded through a grant left by him to enhance the learner experience at WMC.

The ‘How WMC Changed My Life’ competition was open to all students to submit their stories on how far they have come whilst studying at WMC – be it personal barriers to overcome, learning English as a second language, or studying on a course to progress into employment.

On the night, certificates and prizes were presented by Keir Starmer, Labour MP for Holborn and St. Pancras, Helen Hammond, Principal of WMC-The Camden College, and Tom Schuller, Chair of Governors for WMC-The Camden College.

Keir commented “The WMC Success Night was a great opportunity for me to see how the breadth of courses at WMC has enriched so many students’ lives around the local area.

“Students from such a diverse range of backgrounds are all here at WMC to help better their lives in order to gain employment or continue with their education. Plus the rich history of this College being here for over 160 years speaks volumes in itself that WMC-The Camden College is not just providing an outstanding job in educating adults but it also provides an environment that is very homely to make students feel part of the College.

“Listening and reading the stories from students about ‘How WMC Changed My Life’ was very heartfelt and I was honoured to be part of the Student Success Night. My congratulations again to all the students involved.”

Helen Hammond, Principal of WMC-The Camden College, said “The Student Success Night was a wonderful evening for our students to highlight how important adult education is. It was great to celebrate how well our students have done on their courses with us no matter what level their ability is.

“Celebrating adult education certainly proves that no matter what your age, learning a new skill or building upon your current skill-set, is part of our commitment to ensuring students achieve their goals and aspirations. This remains our highest priority and our students certainly agree with this. I want to pass my congratulations again to all the students involved in making the evening very enjoyable.”
