Access Success for WMC's Art & Design students

Thursday 30 June 2011

Another incredible year for students on WMC's Access to HE Art & Design

The students studied an even wider range of subject specialisms from Fine Art to Transport Design, from Theatre Design to Fashion Styling. In a year when it was harder than ever to get into university, all 45 students who applied were offered degree places, maintaining an astonishing 100% success rate.

"It has been an amazing nine months and I can't express how wonderful an experience it has been.  I want to thank WMC and all my fellow students for the laughter, fun, tears and ... we shared together.  We might go in our separate directions, but the memories will always stay."

"The best to date - and the most professional"  "Fantastic work by all the students - inspiring, educational and basically awesome"

Getting a degree place in the future

For 1112 students can apply through UCAS clearing for a place on WMC's Foundation Degree run in partnership with Middlesex University:  Professional Practice in Art & Design with pathways in Communication Design, Fine Art, Illustration.

For 1213 and beyond there will be many more and various routes into and funding streams for degree places.  Already WMC students have jumped into degree and postgraduate degree places on the back of excellent work within some of our part time courses - this year an Etching student did the jump.  The Access to HE course will continue and our new Fashion Foundation will provide a great way in for those interested in fashion specialisms.  But, at the end of the day, what the universities and art colleges want to see is a portfolio of your work.  You can prepare yours by attending several of our part time visual arts courses, with exciting new subjects available this year, and/or by acquiring important skills from our range of portfolio building courses.   Whatever - the challenges, creativity, inspiration and successful results will continue.
