Welcome to the web site for the Working Men´s College. WMC has been providing adult education for well over 150 years and is committed to lifelong learning, widening participation and giving local people a second chance. We have more than 9,000 enrolments but are still small enough to know all our students and to respond to their individual needs. Our recent award of Beacon status for excellence was a tribute to our amazing students and the immense dedication and professionalism of our staff. It confirmed our strength in meeting the education and training needs of local people. I remain convinced that WMC provides the best environment for adults to learn in Central London.
New Courses for New Futures
A great choice of courses will help you progress and develop your career, or extend and enrich your skills and experience. Our huge range of specialist courses is designed for adults with many re-programmed to fit round your work commitments. We offer extensive student support and remain committed to ensuring you achieve your goals and aspirations, and that you enjoy your studies.
Courses to Support Employers
We have a whole series of courses geared to employers. Many employers will be able to apply for Train to Gain funding to meet these course costs. If any of your employees need upskilling just contact our Assistant Director for Enterprise.
College Successes
WMC continues to improve its success rates. We thank our fantastic students and our staff's immense dedication, professionalism and commitment to close community involvement ensuring local people have a second chance.
Student support
WMC remains committed to lifelong learning and widening participation. We continue to improve facilities and equipment and, subject to funding constraints, offer full student support and welfare services to ensure everyone who needs help to study can get it.
Fees, Funding Cuts and the Recession
We have been developing and will continue to devise positive solutions to the funding cuts which all adult education will face over the next few years. And we have worked hard to minimise the impact of the recession on many of our students. So this year many courses are cheaper. For the same reason, we have removed the restriction on the number of courses available to concessionary fee students. At the same time we must tighten up our payment and refund procedures, so please check our new rules. And do book early as many courses will be full before the start of term.
Fundraising for adult education - our 150 Year £1,000,000 Appeal - how you can help
Our fundraising efforts have increased to ensure students in real financial hardship are not prevented from learning. I hope you will join our fundraising efforts. You can help us by making a donation when you enrol, using the gift aid form to make a donation at any time, buying online from many well-known stores through http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/workingmenscollege (a percentage comes to the college), sponsoring or taking part in WMC sponsored activities. Already this year student and staff runners and cyclists are on target to raise over £10k. Let me know your fundraising ideas and whether you would like to lead any fundraising activities.
I hope you join us and look forward to meeting you. Enjoy your time at WMC!
