Working Men's College has a remarkable history as a centre for innovation and excellence in the Visual Arts. In 1854 the great critic, writer and artist John Ruskin taught the first ever drawing class at the College which became a centre for the activities of the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood and later for the Arts and Crafts Movement. Rossetti and Burnes Jones were both WMC teachers and Mackmurdo, whose plant forms heralded the birth of Art Nouveau was a WMC man. Only a few steps away from Mornington Crescent WMC later found itself right under the heart of the Camden Town Group's territory. Women are now a huge part of the college and Sarah Lucas was a WMC student.

Today, situated in Camden Town, one of the most culturally vibrant areas of Central London, WMC's School of Art specialises in preparing adult students (19+) for entry to Degree and other Higher Education Courses across the range of Art and Design subjects, through the highly successful Access to Art and Design Course (with flexible modes of full-time or part-time including evening only options) and the 2-year full-time Art & Design Professional Practice Foundation Degree which provides a stand alone qualification as well as the possibility of progressing to the third year of a BA Hons course at Middlesex University).

In addition the college offers a wide range of other part-time Art & Design courses.
