Information and Communication Technology: ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence)

Daniel Dean has been a WMC student since 2003. He came to the college as an IT novice, eager to learn how to use computers so that he could efficiently fulfil his secretarial duties for the local residents’ association. So his first course was Introduction to Computing.

From these early beginnings Daniel quickly progressed onto CLAIT and then ECDL. Learning to use computers has helped him immensely in his role at the residents’ association. It has empowered him to produce all the minutes and agendas himself and therefore have greater control over the running of the association.

Daniel has never stopped being a student and because he feels passionately about working with children, he signed up to the Teaching Assistants course at WMC. As part of this, he completed a one year placement with Year 4 pupils at Gospel Oak School.

Daniel, who has two of his own, now 18 and 22 , will be completing the TA course during 2008 in the hopes that he can secure employment in a school.

But that’s not all, Daniel is now enrolled in Advanced ECDL, studying word-processing. At weekends he takes part in the drumming and percussion workshop at the college. It’s no wonder that Daniel says “College is a pretty necessary part of my life—it keeps my mind working.”
