ESOL - English for Speakers of Other Languages

ESOL – English for Speakers of  Other Languages

We can only accept learners aged 19 on 31 August 2017 and over only.

Who are these classes for?

Our ESOL classes are designed for those whose first language is not English. We have classes from complete beginner to advanced and you can attend in the morning, afternoon, evening or Saturdays, perfect if you’re working or have children at school. Most of our courses offer nationally recognised qualifications in speaking, listening, reading and writing to help you with work or living in the UK. All our courses look at topics related to living and working in Britain.

Where and when are the classes?

We have classes at our sites in Crowndale Road, Camden Town, NW1 1TR and Leighton Place, Kentish Town, NW5 2QL.

We have classes in the morning, afternoon, evening or Saturdays. Classes start three times a year, but many learners choose to learn for the whole year.

How do I enrol?

You will need to come to college to attend an assessment session before you can start a course. Please allow up to 2.5 hours for your assessment. Bring your passport or European Identity card and arrange childcare for your children. If you are on benefits please bring a recent bank statement or letter confirming your benefit. This has to be dated within the last 3 months from the start date of your course.

How much are the classes?

Fees are rising everywhere but WMC has worked hard to keep its fees low to help you.

Fees on most ESOL courses are FREE to learners on Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) or Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) or on other income based benefits and seeking work or need skills for work. If you are on benefits please bring a recent bank statement or letter confirming your benefit (dated within the last 3 months from the start date of your course) as well as ID such as your passport or European ID card.

For onsite ESOL courses, all other learners pay maximum course fees of £210 for evening and Saturday courses or £295 for daytime classes, including exam fees. Fees also apply for ESOL Classes in the Community and depend on course hours. Please check with the college for further information.

An assessment/interview is needed for the ESOL courses – please check the dates for the assessment sessions.

To book an assessment, visit the college at 44 Crowndale Road, NW1 1TR, or email: enrol@wmcollege.ac.uk or call on: 020 7255 4759 today.

    • Hi Mary
Before your husband can enrol onto an ESOL course he needs to do an assessment first to find out what level of course is appropriate for him. It would be best to come in on Saturday 10 September and do the assessment first, then he will be told which course is perfect for him, the timetable and fees. If he is on benefits then the course could be free. Someone from Learner Services will be in contact too. Thanks

  • I’ve been living in UK for 20 years, so I don’t have any problem to speak, listen and write English for my daily life. However, I’ve still got difficult to understand English properly and I really want to improve my English level. By the way, my husband is English so my daily language is English.

If you can’t get through on the phone then email: enrol@wmcollege.ac.uk. All our courses for this term have started so it will be September now for our next enrolment. Thanks

  • Dear team, could you also give us indicative timing of day and Saturday sessions (how long, how many times per week for each student and can someone do it between 10am and 2.30 pm?). Also wanted to confirm whether the fees mentioned on this article are for each term (4 term in total?) or for the year. I would like our aupair to attend but she is only available in the middle of the day. Thanks a lot in advance. M

    Marie Reply
    • Hi
Our daytime classes usually run twice a week, one day is 9.30 – 3.00pm, one day is 9.30-1.00 with breaks. The usual daytime length is 7 hours per week. Saturday classes are 5 hours per week, 10 to 3.30 (including break) and we also have evening classes twice a week, 6pm to 8.30pm. All our classes are three terms a year (Sept to Dec, Jan to Mar, Apr to Jul). Fees are usually quoted termly. All classes have exams at the end of them, one term is speaking and listening, one is reading, one is writing.
Assessment for ESOL next year begin at the end of August.
If you need more information please call us on: 020 7255 4700 or email: enrol@wmcollege.ac.uk

  • We are hosting a friend who is a refugee from Somalia (via the refugee at home scheme), He is an asylum seeker but his application for asylum is still pending. He has an Application Registration Card of the Home Office, but no yet on benefits, nor is he allowed to seek a job. Can he take courses with you, and if so, would he be charged a fee? He has basic English and is very eager to study.

Refugees have to be here for 6 months and evidence needs to be shown via their residency card/residency status. If not on benefits then he will need to pay. Thanks.
